Research shows nutrition that strengthens the body and reduces the risk of coviding

Eating 5 healthy meals a day can improve immunity, help protect the body and even reduce the risks of Covid-19! – Even so, it is important to take the vaccine and maintain protective measures.

That's what researchers at King's College London found. They were able to prove that people who eat lots of fruits and vegetables and cut down processed foods "are up to 40 percent less likely to get seriously ill the coronavirus."

The study, which was published in medRxiv, also involved scientists at Harvard Medical School.

Study co-author Dr. Sarah Berry said, "For the first time, we were able to show that a healthier diet can reduce the chances of developing Covid."

The academics used data more than 31,000 participants who took Covid in the UK and the US.

Research

Experts at King's College London asked 600,000 people to record what they ate before the pandemic began.

The volunteers were divided into five groups based on how healthy their diets were.

They were also monitored for nine months and asked to tell researchers if they had contracted the coronavirus and to record how sick they got.

The results showed that those who ate the most vegetables were 40 percent less likely to be hospitalized and need oxygen if they were infected.

And they were 10 percent less likely to get the virus.

The researchers defined that the healthiest eat two fruits a day and three different vegetables.

Foods

They also ate 200g of fatty fish such as salmon and sardines every week and kept processed foods with fat and sugar to a minimum.

On the other hand, the less healthy ones ate less than two pieces of fruit over the course of a week and went a few days without eating vegetables.

They also avoided fish and consumed more processed fatty and sugary foods than recommended.

Immune system

Professor Tim Spector, one of the researchers, said that “there is no need to go vegan” to reap the benefits of healthy eating.

But he said eating a diet rich in vegetables could "boost your immune system" and "potentially reduce your risk of Covid."

Professor Spector stated: "People who eat high quality diets (with low levels of ultra-processed foods) have a healthier collection of microbes in their intestines, which is linked to better health."

Technology

The study was conducted using a Covid Symptom Study app healthcare technology company ZOE, which was downloaded more than a million times.

The software – which allows people to record their symptoms and whether they test positive – is used to track the outbreak of coronaviruses in Britain.

Results

Only a quarter tested positive for the virus – the rest were considered infected based on the symptoms they showed.

After analyzing the results, they found that those on the best diets were 40 percent less likely to have serious illness and 10 percent less likely to get the virus.
