"They are the drivers of democracy," said Jeanine Áñez, who was imposed on power by the military. The election will take place on Sunday and polls indicate that the favorite is Luis Arce, candidate of the party of Evo Morales, president overthrown by the coup

With only 6 days to go before the presidential elections in Bolivia, dictator Jeanine Áñez made a curious statement to the local press, with wide praise for the Armed Forces.

According to her, on November 10, 2019, the military did not carry out a coup d'état against then President Evo Morales. For Áñez, they "said no to a dictatorship, an authoritarian and populist period of 13 years, and were the drivers of democracy in the country".

Jeanine Áñez came to power on November 12, 2019, imposed by the Armed Forces, after Evo Morales was already in exile - at that time in Mexico, he is now in Argentina. At the time, she stated that her mandate would be “transition”, and that she would organize elections in February 2020. However, she ended up postponing the date three times, and even became a candidate - something she promised not to do at first - but ended up giving up afterwards, because he felt electorally unfeasible.

The favorite for this Sunday (18) election is the economist Luis Arce, who was Economy Minister of the government of Evo Morales and represents the MAS (Movement Towards Socialism).
