Brazilian creates biotissue that replaces animal testing

A big hail for our country's technology! A Brazilian woman developed a biotissue project that will reduce dermatological tests on animals and even on humans.

Called Organa Kypséli, the idea is an “alternative to animal testing for cosmetic toxicological safety assessments”, as the 34-year-old creator, Solange Rodrigues, explains.

Using a bioprinter, it is possible to have tissue that is very similar to the natural one, but that “mimites [imitates] different skin tones, does not require the use of animals in tests and reduces human guinea pigs”.

The search

The technique recapitulates the natural process of tissue formation by cells to assemble “synthetic scaffolds” that mimic the tissue's natural microenvironment.

She made a video explaining the entire process and showing how printing happens (watch below)

other inventions

And it wasn't the first time Solange had developed a health-friendly technology. In 2019, she and a classmate created a controlled drug delivery device.

The tool is useful for treating breast cancer directly in the tumor, “avoiding the side effects of taking the drug,” as she points out.

She even went to Brasília to present the idea at an Oncology Congress.

She also has Baby Watching that “detects the newborn's positioning in the crib, checking temperature, saturation and heart rate,” she explains.

Solange also intends to patent the product which, according to her, prevents premature death of babies.

Plans for the future

Solange now works as a stockbroker, but dreams of getting a doctorate in tissue engineering and optimizing the projects she already has.

“It's not a question of money, it's a question of changing someone's life with it,” she dreams.

Persistent, she says that anyone can find a skill at any point in life, regardless of age.

“Difficulties you can encounter at any time. But have faith in yourself, your work, your project and your potential. See: I never thought I would study at PUC, who would have thought to present myself at a scientific congress or develop a project like that. I took it one step at a time, always with great resilience. And it's working”, she concluded.
